Land Watch Asia reviews, reflects, and plans

Twenty-two delegates from eight Asian countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines) graced the Land Watch Asia Review and Reflection Planning Meeting on 14-15 January 2014 in Quezon City and Antipolo, Philippines.

The two-day activity: (a) reviewed the 2013 progress of LWA campaign; (b) presented, discussed and validated the initial findings and recommendations of the LWA Mid-term Review; and (c) initiated the process for formulating the plans for 2014 and brainstorming on the next phase of the campaign.

ANGOC’s upcoming activities include regional dialogues – on women’s access to land, land administration, indigenous people’s access to land; monitoring the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries, and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT); and engaging international organizations (FAO, WB, and IFAD). At the national level, LWA partners will be conducting policy dialogues and campaigns emphasizing the rights of women and IPs and land grab issues.

At the Reflection-Planning session, LWA partners shared the positive experiences, challenges, and suggestions for improvement on LWA initiatives and ANGOC events. They also briefly assessed themselves in terms of select competencies needed in LWA campaigners.

To strengthen the Land Watch Asia campaign for 2014, participants discussed ways of improving communications within the network, sharing information, and enhancing learning together. ANGOC will flesh out a knowledge management and communications strategy to guide the network in its endeavors.
