Land rights at threat in Cambodia

We are sharing articles from Radio Free Asia (RFA) that portray the daunting challenge of defending communities land rights against land grabbing – as well as the rights of land rights defenders.

Incidents of land grabbing have been increasing in recent years, and the number of land disputes has likewise risen. The Cambodian government has opened the country to private investors through economic land concessions (ELCs) for private investors. CSOs have documented many cases of violent land grabbing in Cambodia – cases wherein communities are evicted, and those involved in land disputes are harassed, detained, and face death threats.
